The battle took place between the French Fifth Corps d Armee under the command of General Pierre Louis Charles de Failly, and Prussian troops IV and XII of the Army (Royal Saxon) under the command of King George I (December was the whole Saxon Army, while the IV Army regiments was a mixture of Anhalt, Prussian Saxony and Thuringia).
